Cybersecurity in IIoT

When we hear the word cyber security we think mostly of technology. It is true that we understand IoT or IIoT cybersecurity as the methods of protecting and securing devices connected to the Internet and/or devices connected to the company’s network.

Hacker stories from Ukraine

Imagine what it must be like to be without electricity in the middle of winter in Ukraine for several hours.
These were the consequences of a cyber-attack at the end of 2015. Interestingly, almost a year after Russia annexed the Ukrainian province of Crimea.
We are talking about 225,000 people without electricity for hours at a time.

Convergence between IT and OT

In nature, when two rivers converge, a new one is formed. It is not a simple addition of 1+1, it is a new element, with a concrete entity.
Just as when two colors are mixed, such as blue and yellow, a new color is created: green.
By now I don’t think you’ve realised what I’m talking about.
But I’m sure you can imagine that I will be talking about the union of two concepts from the Industry 4.0 environment.
Indeed.

The challenges of Industry 4.0

If you are one of those who enjoy traveling, you will know that in every journey there is something that is more important than the destination: who you share it with.
In Industry 4.0 something similar is happening. There is one thing that is just as important, if not more important, than the goals you can set for yourself: your travel partners.
Choosing well can lead to success that would otherwise be unthinkable. Only with the right partners can you face the greatest challenges.
This and more is what today’s video is all about.

Industry 4.0: mindset risk

In Industry 4.0, as in so many aspects of our professional and personal lives, there is an unwritten rule that everyone knows:
Don’t put the cart before the horse.
Or, in other words, the same thing:
Do not put a roof on a structure that does not yet have walls.
Don’t think about the chimney if the bricks don’t even exist yet.
I don’t need to go on, do I?
But what about Industry 4.0?
Well, we can make the mistake of considering major changes in our factory or company without taking into account the foundations, and the walls.

Benefits of Industry 4.0

Keep this letter.
You may need it.
It is a kind of ode to Industry 4.0.
The dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy defines an “ode” as a lyrical composition in stanzas of elevated tone, which generally praises something or someone.
If you are wondering what you need an ode for, I simply ask you to keep this letter to yourself.
Who knows if you will ever have to convince someone of the many advantages of Industry 4.0.
Then it will be time to use it.

Why are we still programming with two stones?

In logic, we call premises the initial ideas of an argument, from which it is possible to reach a conclusion.
What happens is that when one of the premises is false, the conclusion will necessarily be false as well.
Imagine a structure like this, with two premises and a conclusion:
Premise 1: Programming with code is out of reach
Premise 2: To digitize our company, we have to program with code.
Conclusion: Digitising our business is not within our reach
I hope that by now you have realized that this is a false conclusion based on a false premise (the first one).

Industry 4.0 reference technologies

If you’ve ever been to Rome, you’re sure to have noticed the Pantheon.
The first time I saw it, I was amazed. The grandeur and splendor with which this 2nd-century building stands among the shopping streets of the Italian capital left me speechless.
What struck me most were its columns. If you stand directly in front of it, you will be amazed by the 8 columns that support the frontispiece. Without them, the frontispiece would not stand, nor would it make any sense.
At this point, you may be wondering if we are doing a history lesson.
Not exactly.
And as I guess you can imagine, all this talk about the Pantheon has something to do with Industry 4.0.

Maturity levels of Industry 4.0 and Formula 1

Are any Formula 1 fan in the room?
I am sure it is.
In Formula 1, one of the keys to being first is speed. The other, and no less important, is the starting position.
But obviously, I’m not going to talk about cars today. I am going to talk to you about Industry 4.0.
Because in Industry 4.0 something similar to F1 happens.

Industry 4.0: a starting point

Do all roads lead to Rome?
Sooner or later, it might.
But we all know that with a compass, we would get to Rome in the most efficient way, wouldn’t we?
And if we talk about Industry 4.0, I would say that a good compass is more than essential.
Today I am going to show you one of the best compasses I know and one of the most recommended.
